Side Effects: Spine

Early side effects can occur during or immediately after treatments, and are typically gone within a few weeks. Late side effects can occur months or years later; some may require intervention. Side effects may include:


  • Dysphagia (inability to eat) for patients with upper spine treatments
  • Esophagitis (Inflammation of the esophagus) for patients with upper spine treatments
  • Transient myelitis (may require corticosteroid treatment)
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Spinal column (bone) injury
  • Injury to nearby tissue
